What it is used for
The OnSite-W is intended for material characterization and identification, including:
- Pharmaceutical raw materials — raw-material identification and verification
- Food & agriculture — grain, forage, tobacco and agricultural products
- Meat & dairy — compositional/quality measurements
- Polymers and chemicals
- Security applications involving narcotics and explosives
Software
The system works with VIAVI MicroNIR Pro, which provides:
- Spectral data acquisition
- Calibration and chemometric model development
- Real-time prediction
- Regression and classification
- PLS, MBSD, SMV and PCA analysis
- Batch prediction of stored measurements
- User management
- Pharmaceutical instrument-performance qualification support
- Tools supporting 21 CFR Part 11 compliance
An optional OPC interface is available for process-control integration.
Sampling accessories
The standard kit includes two applicators with sapphire windows—a small applicator for confined areas and a larger one for softer materials such as fibers, clothing and vegetation—plus a protected white reference and rugged carrying case.
Main advantages
Portable: less than 250 g and designed for one-handed operation.
Fast: typical measurement takes only 0.25–0.5 seconds.
Rugged: IP65/IP67 protection and MIL-PRF-28800F Class 2 shock/vibration qualification.
Wireless: Bluetooth connectivity allows the spectrometer to communicate with a tablet.
No moving optical parts: the LVF-based design contributes to the compact form factor and ruggedness.
Note on wavelength specifications: some older/third-party documentation lists the operating range as 950–1650 nm, while VIAVI’s current product page and current datasheet specify 908–1676 nm, with the 6.2 nm pixel interval specified over 950–1650 nm. For procurement or technical comparison, I would use the current VIAVI specification.
