Faro ScanPlan 2D Handheld Mapper Laser Scanner
These are FARO’s published specifications; global accuracy also depends on the SLAM registration and the geometry of the surveyed area. Long paths without loop closures, narrow tunnels, stairs, and similar conditions can reduce accuracy.

How it works
1. Scan → Walk through the building with the ScanPlan.
2. Map → The integrated 2D LiDAR and IMU track the walls and movement.
3. Visualize → The floor plan appears in real time on an Android/iPhone device.
4. Process → ScanPlan data can be brought into FARO Zone 2D for tracing, doors, symbols and reporting.
Typical applications
- Building floor-plan capture
- 2D as-built documentation
- Construction-site documentation
- Facility/property management
- Scan planning for larger 3D laser-scanning projects
- Fire/pre-incident planning
- Crime-scene documentation
- Security and threat assessment
Important in 2026
The ScanPlan is not a current standalone FARO product. FARO officially discontinued the ScanPlan 2D Handheld Mapper as a standalone product on April 30, 2022, and now classifies it as legacy hardware.
So if you’re considering buying a used ScanPlan, the condition of the scanner, battery, compatible smartphone/app, firmware, and availability of software/support are particularly important.
In short: ScanPlan is much more of a fast 2D floor-plan mapper than a conventional 3D terrestrial laser scanner. It is useful when you need a quick building layout rather than dense 3D point clouds.
If you’re evaluating it against the Leica iCON iCS50, FARO Blink, or FARO Focus, I can also make a technical comparison table showing accuracy, range, scanning method, output, applications, and current/legacy status.
