FARO Blink Imaging Laser Scanner

The FARO Blink™ Imaging Laser Scanner is a compact 3D reality-capture scanner designed to make 3D laser scanning fast and simple, particularly for construction, surveying, facilities, and public-safety documentation. FARO describes it as an easier-to-use alternative to more complex terrestrial laser scanners.

These are from FARO’s current 2026 documentation.

How it works

The basic workflow is:

1. Set up → 2. Press one button → 3. Scan → 4. Move to the next position → 5. Automatic positioning/registration → 6. Process/share

The FARO Stream mobile app guides the operator through scanning and helps maintain scan-to-scan positioning. Data can then be processed in FARO Sphere XG in the cloud, or processed offline with FARO SCENE.

What is it good for?

Construction / AEC

  • As-built documentation
  • Existing-condition surveys
  • Floor plans
  • Site progress documentation
  • BIM/reality capture
  • Measurement and dimensional checking

Facilities

  • Building documentation
  • MEP/asset context
  • Maintenance planning
  • Renovation surveys

Public safety

  • Crime-scene documentation
  • Accident/crash scenes
  • Fire scenes
  • Pre-incident planning and evacuation mapping

The important point

Blink is positioned more toward speed, ease of use and visual documentation than maximum surveying accuracy. Its advertised accuracy is up to 4 mm at 10 m, so it can be very useful for building documentation and measurements, but I wouldn’t automatically choose it for demanding survey-grade control, precision deformation monitoring, or high-accuracy industrial metrology.
