What can it measure?
Depending on the installed calibration, X-NIR can analyze parameters such as:
- Moisture / dry matter
- Crude protein
- Starch
- NDF — neutral detergent fiber
- ADF — acid detergent fiber
- Ash
- Crude fat
- Other nutritional parameters depending on the selected ingredient/calibration.
Dinamica Generale currently states that each analyzer includes 5 standard ingredients, with access to calibrations for more than 60 ingredients. Examples include corn silage, grass hay, high-moisture corn, TMR, corn grain, wheat, barley, soybean, green maize, grass, and alfalfa.
How it works
The operator places the X-NIR measurement head directly against the material. The instrument uses NIR light reflected from the sample and compares the spectrum with calibration models to estimate its composition.
A major advantage is that measurements can be made directly in the field or on the farm, without sending every sample to an external laboratory. Dinamica Generale says results can be obtained within seconds, with its case-study material describing a complete analysis in less than a minute.

The X-NIR is therefore more of an agricultural/feed-quality NIR analyzer than a general-purpose laboratory spectrometer.
Important consideration
NIR measurements are calibration-dependent. The analyzer does not directly measure protein, starch, NDF, etc. in the same manner as a laboratory chemical assay; it uses calibrated spectral models. Consequently, the available ingredient/calibration package and its suitability to the material being tested are important when assessing accuracy. Dinamica Generale describes its calibration development as being based on laboratory reference samples and ongoing verification.
